Fred Anderson

Fred and Jack Campbell have been close friends since the day Fred was assigned to run Jack through his live training at the Search and Rescue. Many people have joked that they must share a brain since they often say the same thing at the same time. Neither of them knew how close to the truth that description was. Unlike Jack, Fred has no interest in high tech gadgets. He sees then as tools to make his work life easier, but prefers a simple life at home. He spends most of his free time in outdoor activities with Jack and Bob.

Childhood

Fred had a typical childhood growing up in Abbotsford, British Columbia. He had a few friends in school, but lost contact with most of them after graduating.

University

Fred's first career choice was to be a park ranger. He loved the idea of spending his day at the office by being outdoors. Unfortunately, because of modern technology, the entire province of British Columbia only needed three people as park rangers. Most of their time was spend indoors monitoring system in an office. He ended up studying forest biology, hoping whatever job he did get would allow him to spend some of his time outdoors away from an office. One of the friends Fred made at university was a part time volunteer with the Search and Rescue. After hearing that most of his friends work was done outdoors, usually in isolated places, he decided to switch his studies to start a career with the Search and Rescue.

Finding Home

When Fred began working at the Search and Rescue he continued living in Abbotsford, even though his base was in Chilliwack. He told anyone who asked that he didn't mind a long commute, since he was able to live in a familiar place. That and the fact he was able to rent a small house from his parents for half the normal cost of rent. One of his first missions was to find a group of hikers who had not returned from a trip north-east of the city of Hope. One of the hikers was Bob Jackson, a major in the Canadian Armed Forces. Fred and Bob became friends after the rescue Mission due to their common interest with hunting and fishing. Both men had hear of a small town in the mountain called Brentwood, which was rumored to have the best hiking and fishing areas in southern BC, so they decided to take one of their fishing trip using Brentwood as a starting point. The moment Fred drove into Brentwood he knew he had found the place he would spend the rest of his life. Within a week after the fishing trip was done, He had bought and moved into a house in Brentwood.

Family

Shortly after settling into his new home, Fred was sent to rescue a hiker near Chilliwack who had fallen off a cliff. The hiker was seriously injured and needed emergency surgery, so they brought him to Chilliwack General Hospital where he met Joan, his future wife. He likes to tell people she was so impressed with him she was knocked off her feet. But Joan would always clear up that statement with the story of what actually happened. Fred was walking down a narrow hall while talking to his crew mate and ignoring everything else, when Joan stepped into the hallway. He ran into her, sending her flying into a nearby wheelchair. Fred apologized profusely while offering to take her out for dinner as an apology. Joan thought it was a sweet and creative way to try getting a date so she agreed. She discovered during the date that he hadn't been trying to impress her. He was just not paying attention to his surroundings. But he considered himself very lucky that he stumbled into someone like her. They dated for a little over a year before getting engaged, and were married one year after that. They both wanted children, but never had any luck. Doctors had checked them both, but could find no reason for Joan never getting pregnant.

New Friend

Fred met Jack Campbell when he was assigned to train Jack in the field. He didn't have any interest in training people, but he wanted to become a helicopter pilot and needed to prove he had leadership abilities. When they first met, Fred thought Jack was overconfident and brash. But Jack reminded him what he had been like at the same age. Fred quickly realized Jack was not overconfident. Every task he gave Jack was completed must quicker than anyone else could do it. During rescue missions, Fred became impressed with Jacks ability to get everyone out of harm's way before almost anyone else realized what was happening. When Fred discovered Jack had grown up in Brentwood, he began working at convincing Jack to move back. Bob had already left the Armed forces and moved to Brentwood, so Fred arranged a fishing trip with Bob and Jack. Fred offered Jack a room to stay at his place for before and after the trip, which Jack gladly accepted. Jack had no idea that Fred was really trying to get Jack to remember how nice Brentwood was in order to convince him to move back. Fred's plan worked quickly. Within a day of resting at Fred's home Jack began to talk about everything he missed in Brentwood and eventually decided to move back.

Broken Minds

Five years before the correction started, Joan was killed when a logging truck collided head on with the pickup truck she and Fred were in. The driver of the logging truck was also killed and Fred was in a coma in intensive care for almost one week. When he was told what happened he became introverted and angry. He was placed on a suicide watch for a short time after he refused to eat anything. One month after the accident he was able to return home, although he saw no reason to return. Jack and Bob check in with him at regular intervals during the day. Most of the time he was angry and one day he accused Jack of spying on him before sucker punching Jack and telling hm to leave forever. Luckily for Fred, both Jack and Bob would not give up on him. They brought him on fishing trips, trying to help him feel better, but nothing worked. It wouldn't be until a year after the correction happened that Jack would discover that part of the problem was that Fred's mind was no longer communicating with his brain. It was also not saving the memories of what happened to him each day. If not for Jack's unknown abilities as a memory keeper, Fred's memories would have been lost forever.
