Corporal Eddie Vern

Most people describe Eddie as the nicest guy they ever met. All he has ever wanted is to help other people, even if his own well being was at risk.

Eddie had planned to spend his life in the Canadian military. he didn't care much about ranks or having power. He was more interested in the humanitarian mission the Canadian military was known for. His commanding officer, Captain George Ellis, saw Eddie as a younger version of himself so he decided to guide him towards being his right hand man. George believed Eddie had the potential to achieve anything he wanted and shouldn't limit himself to one small option.

Eddie not only has physical strength, but mental as well. When he and George were captured by the Lights, it took five strings instead of three to stop him from moving around. Normally when the strings capture someone, they block the connection between a mind and brain rendering both unconscious, in order to keep someone from hurting themselves. In Eddie's case, the strings were blocked by Eddie's mind allowing him to stay conscious during their trip to the Portland Settlement. All the Nexus Arms have minds which are stronger than most, but Eddie's is second only to Jack's.

Eddie does not believe the Lights are the enemies of Humanity. He knows their intentions are good, but misdirected. He is determined that when they return, he will convince them to find a way other than corrections to help the human race. he has manage to convince many of the Nexus Arms he is correct, something Jack is grateful for since he also knows the Lights have just lost their way.

When George and his men attacked Eddie, he refused to believe they were acting under their own accord. George had always been his mentor, and the other men had always acted as friends towards him when building New Portland. For weeks he refused to believe they were not being controlled by an outside force. When plans for a rebellion were discovered in Georges home, he had to finally admit the person he saw as his closest friend actually didn't care about what happened to him. Some of the people in New Portland tried to befriend him after George was gone, but Eddie no longer had enough trust to get close to anyone.

When George exiled Jack's mind, and destroyed the government cities, Eddie decided he and the other Nexus Arms could not sit by and allow him to continue his rampage. Eddie first asked Walter for help, since he was in the Delta waypoint, But Walter had no control of the systems there, and the Light in the waypoint refused to interfere. Without the waypoints, he and the others decided to start building blocking field generators near Vancouver in order to keep George and his army contained. But they were already too late. Juvo soon showed up in the cities to kill the Nexus Arms and anyone protecting them. Only a handful of Nexus Arms survived, but Eddie was not one.
