Once the hub of business in British Columbia, out of control land costs and lack of high paying jobs drove out many people from the city. By the end of the twenty first century the majority of the city’s population was people with high paying jobs or who were from wealthy families. When people began to leave, many predicted the downfall of the city. Some even predicted it would be reduced to a gang infested, crime ridden slum like a few cities in the United States. The city chose to not interfere with what was happening, since they were still attracting very reach people and high end businesses. By the end of the twenty first century Vancouver had become known as the paradise of the rich, mainly because only the rich could afford to live and work there. In the end it was good for the city, but not so good for the people whose families had lived there for generations. Most sought new homes in cities further away, such as Abbotsford or Chilliwack. Some left British Columbia for other more affordable places in Canada.
