Strings
Wherever you find a Light you will find Strings. They are used as tool as well as extensions for their mind tendrils. When Lights for constructed bodies for their minds, they attached all six of their primary tendrils to the body, expanding their senses greatly. But by using string all their tendrils are not anchored to one spot, allowing them to function over greater distance. The Lights didn't need their lattice bodies after the invention of Strings, but chose to keep them anyway.
Big Brother to the Threads
Strings and thread are built off of the same technology, but Strings are much larger, stronger, and posses a simple artificial intelligence. Unlike threads, when a string is not powered it is still very visible to the human eye. Unlike threads, Strings have an extremely simple artificial intelligence built in. This allows them to act autonomously if given simple instructions.
Strings may look fragile, but they are actually stronger than most manmade materials. When the correction started many humans believed they could fight them off with axes or clubs. One of the few groups of humans who managed to destroy a String was a group of fourteen Canadian Armed Forced soldiers who were training in the Yukon wilderness. Nine of them managed to hold a single string steady enough for the others to hack at it with a couple axes and their rifles. the String eventually broke in two, but not before sending out a call for assistance. The soldiers were capture a few minutes later when ten Strings showed up for each of them.
Not All Equal
The strings used by Lights as extension for their tendrils are made from short matter, whereas most of the other strings are made from normal matter. Most Lights have also chosen to put a slightly more complex A.I. into their personal strings in order to enhance their minds abilities as much as possible.
